Snake and Scorpion
This Snake vs. Scorpion tattoo has been in the works for quite some time. My client is French and has been touring around Vietnam for some months. My first tattoo for him was a black and grey demon face on his chest. He came back to get this custom design.
He wanted to the sake to wrap around his arm. After trying to place the stencil on his arm (and failing several times) I managed to convince him that wrapping was not the best solution. We proceeded to place the stencil of the scorpion and the snakes head from my drawing then I freehanded the rest of the snake.
After all that, we were only able to get the outlines done. He came back later to start fill in but we couldn't get finish the scorpion let alone the snake. He then went off to travel, Hanoi, Ha Long bay and gods know where else.
Well, he came back and we were able to knock out the rest of it over the last couple of days.
You'll notice that the scorpion's head and left claw are darker, that's because we finished them this session. He wasn't able able to finish the scorpion in one sitting because it's on his shoulder blade which is a tender spot, and my machine may have been hitting a little hard that day.
The Meaning of Anchor Tattoo
Right… so we are getting really close to the end of our program. In few days we are going to meet each other for the last time and summarize what we have learned by presenting us to very important people, which will honour us by their presence. But that’s not all. Reading the invitation for the closing workshop, I found one term, which was not known to me – career anchor. Since I’ve got head, fingers and google, I decided to dig a bit in that topic and it seems very interesting. Here is what I found…
So, The Anchor tattoo is a design that has been a fixture of modern western tattooing for the better part of two centuries, and has even more ancient symbolic roots going back several millennia. The anchor is a favorite of individuals who are associated with marine or naval careers, and is closely identified with sailors all over the world. Many young sailors got an anchor tattoo after their first crossing of the Atlantic.
The anchor symbol is often incorporated with other design elements and is a central nautical design theme of many military service tattoos, particularly those tattoos found among sailors, marines and naval aviators. Other common design elements found with anchors are sailing ships, mermaids and other nautical symbols.In ancient times the anchor, like the fish, was a symbol with ties to the early Christian church. An anchor tattoo can be thought of as holding one steadfast, like an anchor holding a great sailing ship safe in harbour, against winds and currents that might carry it astray.
